Our Mission

Welcome to UMD UAID! We are a student led non-profit organization committed to addressing and reducing health inequities in our local communities of Prince George's County, Washington D.C., Montgomery County, and Baltimore. We aim to empower others to act on health inequities by providing monthly meetings in which we discuss the many faces of health inequities and how to best address them. As a whole, we are committed to service, public health advocacy, educational inequities, and wellness.

Women's History Month Celebration

UAID is always actively seeking opportunities to aid in the fight against local health inequities. We cultivated a tabling event to help address and relinquish health disparities, focusing not only on the lack of women's health essentials but women's health education. Students here at the University of Maryland were given the opportunity to learn more about why local communities may face certain health inequities and disparities, that have ultimately led to disproportionate access to health resources, inadequate health education, and an overall mistrust in health care. Students helped customize and build women's health care packages to be later donated to a local pediatric clinic. We were able to successfully donate over 100 care packages to Rose Pediatrics! This is only one of the numerous steps we are taking in the path towards dismantling health inequity!

UMD UAID X UMB CURE

UAID is absolutely ecstatic to announce our new partnership with UMB CURE. UMB CURE is a middle and high school program that seeks to empower students in West Baltimore for competitive and rewarding research, health care, and STEM-related career opportunities. UAID is partnering with UMB CURE to offer mentorship, pre-health seminars, and opportunity for service in dismantling health and educational inequities! We are happy to officially kickoff the start of this partnership on 4/27/2024, where the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins professor and neuroscientist will help UAID to deliver our first health seminar!
